In 2022, over 57,000 impoverished lives have been touched through donations from Shine, our patients, and employees. These impacts include things such as: providing a simple nutritious meal, caring for an orphan’s entire needs for the year, providing clean water for a village by digging a well, a life changing cleft palate surgery, or sharing the gospel of Jesus and making an eternal difference.

Connie’s Home was founded in 2000 by Richard and Connie Cummins. They provide a healthy and loving home to children the Thai government is unable to care for. In seeking to restore the children’s health, Connie’s home also cares for them in a way that shows them the love of Christ. All school age children at Connie’s Home are able to attend school. The home also provides the children with music time, outdoor time, and age-appropriate class time to give them both daily structure and a childhood. Shine began supporting Connie’s Home in 2016.

Teen Challenge is an international organization that provides a Christ-centered, faith-based solution for youth, adults and families struggling with life-controlling problems, such as addiction. Teen Challenge endeavors to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well and spiritually alive. We are excited to be a part of the amazing changes they are making in thousands of lives in the US and around the world. Shine has been supporting Teen Challenge since our founding in 2011.

Youth Haven was founded in 1968 in Rives Junction, Michigan by Morry and Dorothy Carlson and in 1982 they opened the Arizona campus, Youth Haven Ranch. Youth Haven’s mission is to provide life-changing, Christ-centered experiences for disadvantaged children. Youth Haven provides a variety of services, such as: summer camps, weekend camps and afterschool programs. Gifts to Youth Haven provide scholarships for disadvantaged children to attend these programs free of charge.

As a result, these children begin to make positive choices, set goals for the future, and develop character traits to make a difference in the world around them. Most importantly, they discover the hope that comes from knowing God is always with them and has a special plan for their lives!

In 1865, William Booth, an ordained Methodist minister, along with his wife Catherine, formed an evangelical group dedicated to preaching among the impoverished people of London, England. They took the Gospel message into the streets where it would reach the poor, the homeless, the hungry and the destitute. In addition to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, Booth became involved in the feeding and sheltering of the hungry and the homeless and in rehabilitation of alcoholics. They named their organization The Salvation Army. Today, The Salvation Army is active in virtually every corner of the world and serves in over 100 countries, offering the message of God’s healing and hope to all those in need.

Since its local Arizona founding in 1893, The Salvation Army Valley of the Sun programs continue to provide services to the homeless, working poor, children, youth, addicted, elderly, and abused. They give a hand up, not a hand out and they serve those in need without discrimination or judgment.

Founded in 1987, Feed My Starving Children is a Christian non-profit committed to feeding God’s starving children, hungry in body and spirit. Their approach is simple: children and adults volunteer to hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and the organization ships these meals to distribution partners around the world.

Their mission is to reach everyone, until ALL are fed. And with God’s help, they are committed to working together with organizations and ministries across the globe to end hunger.

Compassion International is a Christ centered child-advocacy ministry that pairs compassionate people with those who are suffering from poverty. The ministry releases children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty. The goal is for each child to become a responsible and fulfilled adult.

We admire how Compassion explains their mission:

“Our mission is to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. It’s a mission about love. We love God, and we demonstrate our love and live out our faith by extending care to others. We offer our programs to the poorest of the poor, to the children in greatest need, without ulterior motive. We devote ourselves to helping children of all faiths, cultures, backgrounds and race — without imposing any religious obligation or conversion requirement upon them. We simply aspire to be like our Savior, Jesus Christ, in who we are and what we do.”

Operation Smile is an international medical charity that has provided hundreds of thousands of free surgeries for children and young adults in developing countries who are born with cleft lip, cleft palate or other facial deformities. Operation Smile helps to fill the gap in providing access to safe, well-timed surgeries by partnering with hospitals, governments and ministries of health, training local medical personnel, and donating much-needed supplies and equipment to surgical sites around the world.

Shine has provided funding for 1 life changing surgery each month, since January 2013.

Serving Orphans Worldwide is a Christian organization whose purpose is to help children’s homes all around the world increase the level of care afforded to orphaned children.

They rescue struggling orphanages and children’s homes from failure or destitution, because they strongly believe failure isn’t an option when the lives of children rest in your hands. They come alongside partner homes with training opportunities to raise their standards of care, because they believe every child has a right to a safe and nurturing childhood. And they provide the means for the orphanages to pursue self-sustainability, because they want more for them than mere survival. Each home supported strives to transform the lives of children with the love of Jesus.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. Their mission is to provide millions of shoe boxes each year filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. They ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. Join us each November as Shine packs Christmas boxes for children in need.

Advancing Native Missions serves as a bridge between individuals and churches and fruitful local ministries and missionaries around the world. Instead of sending missionaries abroad, they help people invest in local ministries who are doing God’s work among their own people. They are blessed to help fellow Christians come beside 345 ministries in 97 different countries. Each of these ministries is bringing the life-changing love and message of salvation of Jesus to people in their own countries, regions, and communities who’ve never received it.

In 1917 a missionary named William Cameron Townsend went to Guatemala to sell Spanish Bibles. But he was shocked when many people couldn’t understand the books. They spoke Cakchiquel, a language without a Bible. Cam believed everyone should understand the Bible, so he started a linguistics school (the Summer Institute of Linguistics, known today as SIL) that trained people to do Bible translation. The work continued to grow, and in 1942 Cam officially founded Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Over the following decades, Wycliffe celebrated many milestones — from the first translation completed in 1951, all the way to the 500th translation completed in 2000. Around the same time, Wycliffe adopted a new challenge — a goal of seeing a Bible translation project started in every language still needing one by 2025.

The Phoenix Rescue Mission was founded in 1952 as the Phoenix Gospel Mission by LeRoy and Grace Davidson, a 28-year-old house painter living in Phoenix. On its opening day, about 15 migrant workers came and sat on wooden boards supported by paint cans for a basic meal and to hear the gospel message. Today they offer a number of Christ-centered programs and services for men, women, and children in the Phoenix, Arizona metro area, who are struggling with homelessness, drug addiction, and trauma.
In 2011, the Mission opened the Changing Lives Center, a specialized facility for near homeless, recovering, and/or traumatized women and their children. The Changing Lives Center was and continues to be the only faith-based recovery program in the region offering long-term, comprehensive services to women and their children.

Cru is a non-profit, evangelical Christian organization committed to the Great Commission and “winning people to faith in Jesus Christ, building them in their faith and sending them to win and build others” Cru’s primary goal is to help the body of Christ to do evangelism and discipleship through various creative approaches. Founded in 1951 by Bill and Vonette Bright as a ministry for university students at UCLA in California, Cru seeks to create strategies and structure so that everyone everywhere knows at least one person who truly follows Jesus. Over the last several decades, Cru has expanded its ministry to adult professionals, athletes, and high school students, in addition to reaching college students. Cru has 2,400 campus ministries reaching out to students, partnerships with over 2,000 local churches to help the homeless, and athletic outreaches in 85 nations.
